THOUGHTS:

16th May 2008

TWO MONTHS IN - and going strong. (And they said it would never last!)

And I must confess that it's doing much better than I imagined it would. Thank you to everybody who has logged on and downloaded one of my shows and a special thanks to those people who have been kind enough to contact me.

MUSICALY - I think it's been a pretty good year so far. What do you think? (It's funny how things change each year though, I remember last year there were loads of good Soulful-House 12" about but not many this year yet. And 2006 seemed to be the year of the Japanese album) The Reel People and Sunburst Band albums have been far and away the high points for me. And I must confess I can't get "Put a lyric in it" by The Sunburst band and "We will never end" by Vladimir Cetkar out of my head at the moment. If only there was some good new REAL Soul out there. The last really great Soul album I bought was Marcell & The Truth in 2006. (Although the Victor Brooks & Ebony Alleyne CD's were pretty good too.) Most of the Nu and Organic-Soul I hear is so dull (Tracks and albums start off  O. K. and then go nowhere). Maybe times are changing, maybe the good new Soul is now being made in the U. K. by producers like Joey Negro and the guys behind Reel People and not the American Soul singers? maybe Soulful-Dance is the new REAL SOUL.

I HAVE JUST ADDED A NEW LINK - (See links page) for a company called NCH Swift sound audio, who do a free downloadable program which allows you to split MP3 files. So now you will be able to fit the shows onto CD.

THE NEW SHOW - has gone on-line a week or so early. I must confess I recorded it about a week ago and am about to record show 7 tonight. Normally I record the show late on a Friday night (over a few drinks!) and then put it on-line the following morning. But I'm going to be rather busy for the next few weeks. So it was either record early or not at all. Back to normal next month.

DAZLER IN THE HOUSE (vol.3) - has just been added to the MORE MUSIC page. (Vol. 1 & 2 to follow). And the new show should be on line later this week.

A SAD DAY FOR RADIO - With the end of Peter Young's great show on Smooth Radio (or Jazz FM as most people still remember it. This is of cause the same station who also let Gilles Peterson, Steve Hobbs, Chris Phillips, Jez Nelson, Robbie Vincent, Greg Edwards & Mike Chadwick all go to be replaced with bland presenters and nondescript music - No wonder nobody listens anymore!) I wonder are there any more real music presenters (and great music shows) left on terrestrial (or digital for that mater) radio. PY is set to join Solar Radio.

On-line is now the place to hear great music!

IT WAS LOVERLY TO HEAR FROM VICTOR BROOKS TODAY - His Samba Soul album was (and is) one of the best new Soul albums I've heard for years - Highly recommended! This is what he had to say:

                                                       ********************

Hello

Just wanted to thank you for your positive words and recommendation of my album. It means a lot to know that true soul lovers appreciate the groove I was bringing...
As always, London is the mecca of "Soul Preservation" for the world. :) Right on!

Until

IT WAS GREAT TO HEAR FROM AL CAMPOS - His "New York Felling" track is one of the best of the last few years And the album's good too! Here is something of what he had to say:

                                                    ***********************

Brother D!
Man I am so very grateful for what people like You and Phil are doing for
dudes like me.
It is an honor to hear your comment about New York Feeling.
I tell you, when we finished recording this song and was listening to the
track, well before any mixes or any mastering, I knew this song had "IT."
I believe that this song will find it's way to the Very TOP.
I mean that without any doubt this song "will be" the new song for New
Yorkers.

Please bro, keep playing it and feel free to do with it as you wish

Lots of love and Blessings to you man,

Al Campos
